LAARC Update
November 28, 2008 Specialist projectsHello museum people, archaeologists, general public and whoever else may be reading this.
As we’re fast approaching the end of the year, I thought I’d update you on what’s been going on in your favourite archaeological archive.
First up, we’re nine weeks in with only one week left of our extremely successful LAARC VIP project – the Volunteer Inclusion Project although, of course, everyone is considered a very important person to us…
Anyway, the idea was to recruit a bunch of new volunteers from all aspects of the community, bring them together to help us repack our backlog of legacy archives from the 70’s as well as sort out our metal store, then along the way, offer them chances to develop transferable skills whilst building up a knowledge of London’s archaeology.
By all accounts, going by the responses and the feedback we’ve received, we should give ourselves a pat on the back as we’ve done pretty well. Don’t believe me? Well read about what we’ve achieved for yourselves by visiting our blog:

With Christmas only 26 days away (!) we’re getting ready for the festivities. At our Christmas party we’ll be announcing our object of the year – the competition which takes all 12 of 2008’s monthly competition winners, throws them altogether and leaves their fate to be decided by you.
For the next week they’ll be displayed outside Mortimer Wheeler House’s Ceramic and Glass store and there really is no excuse for you not to vote.
Follow the link below, have a nose around and enjoy the winners, take a closer look by clicking on the pictures and viewing them on flickr and then vote for the one that makes you go “Wow. That really is something else”
Piece of cake. To vote visit the blog page:

Finally, this has been a pretty busy year, with several events, both internal and external, several projects we’ve been involved with, loads of tours we’ve done of the archive, hundreds of researchers passing through our doors and 1000’s of extra space created within our walls. I could tell you more about them but I’ve got to leave something for the final blog of the year.
Happy Christmas Shopping!
