LAARC VIP7: Volunteer Profile – Arabella
November 8, 2010 Archaeology, Archaeology in Action, LAARC VIP, Volunteer Profile, Volunteers
Each week we post volunteer profiles, which let you find out a little more about the fantastic volunteers that form our project team. This week it’s Arabella.
1. When did you join the volunteer programme and why?
I joined the volunteer programme in June 2010 (VIP6). I have always been interested in working in museums and I study archaeology part-time, so I wanted to get some experience in working with archaeological material in museums.
2. What was your most memorable day whilst volunteering?
Almost all days were memorable – I can’t think of a particular day. It was fun, I learnt loads and I really enjoyed the workshops at the end of each day.
3. What was your favourite object you discovered whilst volunteering?
I loved the animal bones.
4. What’s your favourite part of the museum?
Prehistory gallery and the new Victorian streets.
5. Upper galleries or lower galleries?
Well, Prehistory in the upper part and then all of the lower galleries are really great.
6. Favourite year in London’s history?
Prehistory and the medieval period – the plague years especially the 1300s.
7. Favourite Londoner?
I really don’t know.
8. Mortimer Wheeler or Indiana Jones?
Indiana Jones
9. If you could dig anywhere in the world, where would you excavate?
Africa – I am really interested in human origins so I would love to excavate there.
10. What’s next for you after this project?
To try and get involved in more projects that are about interacting with the general public or learning/education in museums.
