LAARC VIP7: Volunteer Profile – Jackie

Archaeology, Archaeology in Action, LAARC VIP, Volunteer Profile, Volunteers

Each week we post volunteer profiles to let you find out a little more about our team of volunteers. Today it’s Jackie.

1. When did you join the volunteer programme and why?

Feb – April 2010 (VIP5). Beginning of a career change from journalism to archaeology, which has always been my passion.

 2. What was your most memorable day whilst volunteering?

The first day when we were allowed to actually handle the finds and pots in the ceramic store. Couldn’t believe they trusted me!

 3. What was your favourite object you discovered whilst volunteering?

A medieval iron spur – so evocative and really brilliant to conjure a story around.

Medieval Spur

Roman house.

 5. Upper galleries or lower galleries?

Upper.

 6. Favourite year in London’s history?

 8. Mortimer Wheeler or Indiana Jones?

Indiana – far more glamorous.

 9. If you could dig anywhere in the world, where would you excavate?

The City of London.

 10. What’s next for you after this project?

Back to journalism while getting more experience as a field archaeologist – now I really know what I want to do.
