LAARC VIP7: Volunteer Profile – Vince
November 2, 2010 Archaeology, Archaeology in Action, LAARC, LAARC VIP, Volunteer Profile, Volunteers
Each week during the project we post a volunteer profile to let you find out a little bit more about the excellent people that donate their time to the Museum. Today it’s Vince, who not only volunteers for us, but co-runs a similar project at Harrow Museum too!
1. When did you join the volunteer programme and why?
I first joined in September 2009 (VIP4), because it looked like an interesting opportunity to gain experience of working in a museum.
2. What was your most memorable day whilst volunteering?
Possibly the day when photographers came in to take photos of us at work. A few months later I found myself on the front cover of a brochure about the project.
3. What was your favourite object you discovered whilst volunteering?
I particularly enjoyed the clay tobacco pipes, one of which had a skull shaped bowl.
4. What’s your favourite part of the museum?
I really like the Victorian galleries and the recreation of a shopping street.
5. Upper galleries or lower galleries?
Lower galleries.
6. Favourite year in London’s history?
1900, the height of Imperial London.
7. Favourite Londoner?
Any one of the millions who have made London their home over the last 2000 years.
8. Mortimer Wheeler or Indiana Jones?
Mortimer Wheeler.
9. If you could dig anywhere in the world, where would you excavate?
Central or South America.
10. What’s next for you after this project?
I have no idea yet, but hopefully a job that’s as interesting as the project.
