Analysis of post medieval skeletons in London has found a number of individuals exhibiting evidence of such facets, often these are in association with dental stains, most likely associated with inhaling smoke from burning pipe tobacco. This evidence suggests that pipe smoking was common amongst some populations of London. This was the principle method of tobacco consumption during most of the nineteenth century.
